A new grocery store has been built in Budapest’s District XII, in the Buda Hills, featuring contemporary architectural solutions that meet the needs of modern times while fitting into its surroundings and the streetscape.

To optimize the use of the plot, the building’s massing follows the sloping topography. The parking level is partially recessed into the terrain, allowing the shop floor—elevated on columns—to emerge at a harmonious scale and remain fully accessible.

The lower-level parking area relieves pressure on surrounding streets and squares and also provides charging stations for electric vehicles. A rooftop garden has been created on the flat roof of the building, with irrigation using recycled rainwater.

Environmental awareness was a key aspect of the design, reflected in the use of renewable energy, passive solar design with large glazed surfaces, and walls and slabs with high thermal mass. The building’s heating and cooling is provided by an eco-friendly ground-source heat pump system. In addition, two further parking spaces are equipped for electric car charging.

From Easter 2022, a modern Príma grocery store awaits customers.
