This is how the Interspar hypermarket in Tata was built.
In addition to the 3,000-square-meter sales area, a 3,000-square-meter shopping section was created in the building, accommodating various smaller retail units and shops.

The Terrain in Tata Hid Some Challenges Below the Surface
The site preparation, foundation, and substructure works were carried out by Vértes-Út Kft. According to Balázs Lengyel, a particular challenge was that the store was being built on marshy, swampy land, requiring special deep foundations. The groundwater level is extremely high, and in several places water appears at the surface. Moreover, a water-impermeable layer lies 8 meters below ground level, which, if drilled through, would cause pressurized water to erupt like a geyser. Drilling through this layer is, of course, prohibited to protect Tata’s natural heritage, so a special piling foundation had to be used. Additionally, to prevent water damage to the building, the entire ground level had to be raised by one meter. The stone fill used in hydraulic engineering now allows water to flow freely without damaging the structure.
The store’s prefabricated structures were produced by Ferrobeton Zrt., while the laminated, glued timber roof structure was manufactured by the Austrian timber construction company Rubner Group. The project manager emphasized that a timber-structured roof is a rarity for commercial buildings, as this element is typically made of concrete. However, SPAR focused not only on function but also on unique design and high-quality materials, aiming to convey a nature-inspired atmosphere—partly due to the Tata location.
Last but not least, all other exterior, structural, and finishing works are being carried out by ÉPDUFERR Zrt. Currently, all four contractors are on-site: Vértes-Út is nearing completion, Ferrobeton and Rubner are halfway through, while ÉPDUFERR has just started its work.
